MLM: Try it or Avoid it?
Multi-Level Marketing has gotten a bad rap over the years because it has been linked to many scams and ponzi schemes but it’s still a legitimate and honest way to generate income with a part-time effort.
A MLM Program is set up when you decide to become an affiliate and sell products and services on behalf of a company. What you usually get in return, is a small commission for your efforts. Boo hoo hoo
. You probably wouldn’t want to quit your day job too soon on what the average MLM Affiliate makes on their own level. But where the real money is made is through work you convince others to do for you. As a MLM affiliate, you also have the benefit of being able to refer other people to your great money making opportunity. They start to sell the same products and services and you collect a small commission for their work. The more people you sign up under you, the more money you make. Also, there are many programs that allow you to receive commission from the sales generated by people your original referrals refer. Many Programs will pay 5, 10 or even an infinite number of levels deep.
There have been people who became millionaires from this type of marketing but it’s more likely that these people were lucky enough to got into the business early in the game or they’ve spent several dedicated years building their downline.
Some Tips
The First step is to find a company that offers products and services you already love and use. It’s very difficult to convince someone else to purchase a product that you know little about or don’t even use yourself. You will generate most sales from repeat customers; and repeat customers may be your best leads to new customers. Unhappy customers are very likely to tell 7-10 people about a bad experience compared to happy customers, who are only likely to tell between 3-5 people about a good experience. This means that a person selling crap is promoting a company that will eventually fail and failing companies tend to take down failing affiliates with them. If you want to succeed, you want to put your name behind a company that is serious about what they are selling and serious about making sure you succeed.
The next step is to find a way to Market Yourself . Forget about marketing the product for now. The best place to start is with family and friends. These people are the most likely to support you and even help promote you for free. Get business cards, find opportunities to meet new people and make new friends. It’s easier to hand out a business card to a friend then it is to hand them out to someone you met 20 minutes earlier. Also, Business cards are expensive. You really don’t want to be handing them out to people who are likely to just chuck the card out the moment you are out of sight. Make use of Social Networking Sites, Instant Messenger sites, Chatting Rooms, Twitter as a way to meet new friends who may potentially become business leads. Try creating a blog of your own.
